Tired of Affirmations That Don’t Work? If you’ve written affirmations for yourself and diligently said them out loud every day but didn’t see results then keep this in mind: the Law of Attraction doesn’t respond to words. The reason words don’t work is because even though the cognitive part of your brain responds to logic and words, the emotional part of your brain does not. Millions of years ago humans were controlled by their emotional (limbic) brain for survival. The “fight or flight” response originates in the emotional brain.The cognitive brain developed over the years but the emotional brain is still there. When you feel intense fear or have a panic attack, that’s your emotional brain at work. Any time you experience an emotional trauma or wound, it leaves its mark on your emotional brain. This part of the brain responds better to feelings and to your body, not to words. If you have low self esteem or struggle with limiting beliefs about yourself or your life, then you have to focus on your feelings more than your words. Here are 3 ways to put feeling into your affirmations: 1. To create feelings to go with your affirmations, it can help to put together photos or a video of the type of life you want to live someday. These will help you experience the feeling of already living this life. For example, if you have a photo of your dream house it is much easier to feel excitement and a sense of ownership even though you don’t own the house yet. 2. When saying your affirmations do a physical activity at the same time, such as exercise. Involve your body in some way to give your affirmations more sticking power. The endorphines released during exercise will make you feel energized and happy and, in turn, will help you feel the positive feelings necessary to make your affirmations believable to yourself. 3. Take deep breaths while saying your affirmations. Close your eyes and visualize your affirmation as you inhale an exhale. 3 Ways to Get Past Limiting Beliefs When Using Affirmation Everything we do comes from our beliefs. Beliefs that hold us back are called “limiting beliefs.” You probably have limiting beliefs that began in childhood. For example, if you were raised in a home where your parents struggled with finances, you might have the limiting belief that you’ll never be wealthy.Any time you’ve experienced failure it can automatically create a limiting belief in our thoughts if you aren’t careful. So if you have used the Law of Attraction and affirmations with little success, it’s probably because you have limiting beliefs that interfere with your progress. Your limiting beliefs won’t vanish overnight but you can work around them and start using affirmations that will gradually erode your limiting beliefs. For example, if you say the affirmation, “I own a BMW” to yourself you might have subtle negative feelings because you’re saying you own something you don’t really own and can’t afford. This is a limiting belief. Your feelings won’t align themselves with this affirmation and you’ll be held back by a limiting belief. Here are 3 ways to get around your limiting beliefs when using affirmations: 1. Take a look at your affirmations and reword them as follows with the word “ideal”: “My ideal relationship is ___________.” “My ideal job is ___________.” “My ideal customer is _____________.” “My ideal vacation is _________.” And so on. It’s easy to get excited about your ideals so before you know it you’ll soon start attracting what’s ideal to you. 2. Another way to make your affirmations override your limiting beliefs is to use the words “I’m in the process of.” So your affirmations would be, “I’m in the process of becoming slim and healthy.” “I’m in the process of attracting a BMW.” 3. Perhaps the best way of all to blow past your limiting beliefs is to make sure your affirmations are about things you are truly enthusiastic about. That might seem obvious but it’s easy for us to have affirmations about things we think we should want but in reality we don’t really want them, we only want them because we think we should. Lack of enthusiasm blocks the flow of success. So take another look at your affirmations and make sure your affirmations are things YOU want and not things you want just to please someone else. Law of Attraction and Good Vibrations The Law of Attraction isn’t ultimately about thoughts or affirmations – it’s about vibrations. This is rooted in quantum physics, which is the study of the building blocks of the universe. Everything is made up energy, including our bodies.
